IT took 166 years before a movie on Charles Dickens' story book "A Christmas Carol" got into the silver screen. And apparently, it's worth the wait.
With the top role being played by versatile Hollywood star Jim Carrey, the movie takes on the capitalism in the 19th century.
At a time when capitalism faces uncertainty amid the global economic meltdown and investment fraud, the movie appears "very timely", as characters in the movie --- Ebenezer Scrooge, a greedy business magnate in the Dickens' tale, finds his way back into righteousness.
Carrey, who plays the role of corporate scumbag Scrooge, describes the Disney movie as very relevant today. He said that is a very pressing story for the modern day. In one of his interview, Carrey even went on to say: "I think stories get told at times when they're supposed to be told".
Even without directly referring to the present day business scumbags, Carrey seemed wanting wealthy businessmen of today to seriously consider radical changes in their ways by simply watching his movie.
Disney's movie on the classic Dickens book is scheduled to be released and shown in North America today.
Comparing the Movie to Real Life
Jim Carrey made no direct statement, but quotations from his interviews apparently point to the present day situation. He said that the story is so pressing at a time when everything seemed to be falling pout of its proper place because of greed and fraud.
His statements, however, appear subtle and constructive even as he described his movie as a transformational film that is capable of bringing light to the blinded corporate scumbags.
Carrey himself admitted having pondered with his future when he got a complete grasp of the film's storyline.
Must-see Movie
Written and directed by Oscar award winner Robert Zemeckis, the film makers used digital technologies and 3D enhancements to make it a lot better. The film also stars Robin Wright Penn and Gary Oldman.
In the movie, Carrey is playing the role of an old bitter, greedy Scrooge and the ghosts of the Christmas "Past", "Present" and "Yet to Come".
Surprisingly, Dickens' story was preserved despite numerous modifications and inclusions in the storyline. There are some scenes that seemed requiring kids to have their parents beside them inside the movie house for "guidance".
Even before it could be released, the Christmas movie appears on the verge of a big box-office success even as tracking surveys are showing awareness and interest for the Jim Carrey film.
"A Christmas Carol" is expected to top weekend ratings with figures ranging from $ 35 – 40 million. It would be shown in 3,700 theaters.
Zemeckis, who directed the film "A Christmas Carol", was the same person who made another animated holiday movie "The Polar Express," which grossed no less than $ 305 million.
Promoting Goodness
Generally, the movie promotes goodness. It is also seen as largely contributing to whatever changes that the corporate people would take --- both in the business and among themselves.
Many reviews have already been published in the US-based dailies and posted in the net and everything seemed positive about the movie making it to the top, notwithstanding the perfect timing of the showing of the film. GP
