One of the least expensive things that you can do to redecorate your bathroom is to paint. When choosing paint, remember that the bathroom is a place of high humidity. You will also want a paint that will be washable when dry and fully cured. Be sure to properly mask all fixtures to keep the paint off of them.

Another inexpensive way to change the look of an older bathroom is to add new flooring. One of the least expensive is the peal and stick tile that will just stick over the older flooring. The larger the tile, the better adhesion you will have. If you can use the eighteen inch tiles, there is a black and white checked pattern that is perfect for a retro bathroom.

One often overlooked element that can make a real difference in the appearance of the bathroom is the toilet seat. If yours is starting to have peeling paint or is cracked, change it now and your bathroom will have a crisper cleaner look. The best seats have metal hinges rather than the nylon ones. These metal hinges do not separate like the other ones will.

If choosing a theme, remember that it should reflect your own personality and lifestyle. The bathroom of a young family may have a totally different theme than that of a single professional.

If you are not into themes for the bathroom but still want a new look, try adding new towels and a shower curtain in different colors that the previous ones. When chosen carefully, they can give the bathroom a whole new look. Add a silk floral arrangement for bathrooms without natural lighting and live plants for bathrooms with windows. When choosing live plants, look for those which thrive in high humidity.
