NCAA Basketball Championship
The NCAA Championship trophy was first raised up high in 1952. This walnut plank that is embellished with a metal NCAA seal and olive branches replaced a silver cup that had previously gone to the winners. The walnut plank only valued at $500 or so.
This understated trophy isn't the only thing champions get for winning. The morning after the last game, the National Association of Basketball Coaches presents the winners with a much larger and more elaborate marble trophy topped with a Waterford crystal basketball.
The Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy
The NBA's championship trophy made its debut in 1978. It was originally called the Walter A. Brown Trophy, after former Celtics owner whose name had been on the league's previous championship trophy. In 1984, the league renamed the trophy to honor outgoing NBA commissioner Larry O'Brien. The trophy is around two feet high and depicts a basketball going into a net. The Tiffany designed trophy is made of sterling silver coated in 24 carat gold and weighs over 14 pounds. According to the NBA, each trophy is worth $13,500.
The Vince Lombardi Trophy
This NFL trophy went to the Super Bowl's winner for the first time in 1967. Tiffany and Company also created this trophy. The trophy took on Lombardi's name after the legendary head coach of the Green Bay Packers sudden death in 1970. It's just less than two feet tall and depicts a regulation-sized football. The trophy is made of sterling-silver and weighs just under seven pounds. The Lombardi Trophy is said to have a value of $25,000.
The Commissioner's Trophy
The MLB first gave out this trophy in 1967. The St. Louis Cardinals won the first Commissioner's Trophy by beating the Boston Red Sox in the World Series. Ever since then, the winners of the World Series have received one of these monuments. The design has undergone a few minor changes over the years, but this one probably has more symbolism than most trophies. The ebony base has 30 miniature pennants, each represents one of the 30 clubs. The flags encircle a giant silver baseball with 24-carat vermeil stitches that is engraved with latitude and longitude lines symbolizing the world. The 30-inch trophy weighs nearly 30 pounds and is worth an estimated $15,000.
The Stanley Cup
The NHL's Stanley Cup is named after Frederick Arthur Stanley, the 16th Earl of Derby who was the Governor General of Canada from 1888 to 1893. In 1892 he decided that Canada's hockey teams needed to vie for a trophy. So he gave 10 guineas to purchase a silver bowl made in Sheffield, England. The trophy was originally called the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup, but Stanley's name quickly attached itself to the bowl. What might be surprising to fans is that the cup wasn't very big. The bowl Stanley purchased was only seven inches tall and 11 inches in diameter. The trophy went to the top hockey team in Canada, but in 1910 it began bouncing around from one professional hockey league to another. In 1926 the young NHL had adopted the trophy on an informal basis by 1947 it became the official spoils of a championship.
The 35-pound Stanley Cup we all know isn't the original Stanley Cup. The original bowl that Stanley purchased has been retired and is on permanent display at the Hockey Hall of Fame. The familiar Stanley Cup didn't come about until 1947, when an engraver redesigned the trophy to make it less unwieldy. Since then, it's become one of sports' most coveted treasures, because its rings bear the inscription of the rosters and staff of winning teams. Of course, every so often the room for engraving on the trophy fills up, so the league pops off the oldest ring, flattens it out, and sends it to the Hall of Fame for display while adding a new blank ring to the trophy's base.

Chances are your dog will enjoy AmericaÂ’s most famous park in midtown Manhattan as much as you will. Dogs are not allowed everywhere in Central Park (Elm Islands at the Mall, Sheep Meadow, East Green, or Strawberry Fields are among the main prohibited areas) but can go off-leash before 9 a.m. where allowed.

Keep an eye out for horses and city streets that cross the park from 59th to 110th

streets and from Fifth Avenue to Central Park West. Bring a water bowl on hot days -

the only current fountain outfitted for dogs is at the entrance on East 90th Street.

Architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux designed the park to remain in

a naturalistic setting so even in New York City you can lose yourself on woodland

paths.

An hour north of New York City you can find some of the best parks anywhere to

hike with your dog. As development slowly creeped into the Hudson Highlands

efforts were made to preserve the area but it was not until the State of New

York tried to relocate Sing Sing Prison to Bear Mountain - so named for its

resemblance to a bear in repose - that conservation forces truly mobilized.

Railroad magnate E.W. Harriman and others donated land and vast sums of money

to save the Highlands and in 1910 Bear Mountain-Harriman State Park was

dedicated. Within five years it was hosting more than one million visitors per year.

There are more than 200 miles of marked hiking trails through Harriman State Park,

New YorkÂ’s second largest, and many more in adjacent Bear Mountain State Park.

Even so, the crush of visitors can be so great that designated hiker-only parking

lots fill up quickly. Arrive early or face difficult access to trailheads.

Trail historians will want to hike awhile on the Appalachian Trail at Bear Mountain -

the very first section of more than 2000 miles of AmericaÂ’s most famous trail was

built here. The canine hike to Hessian Lake on the AT is rich in Revolutionary War

lore.

The Timp Hike is a popular introduction to the Hudson Highlands, starting directly

on Route 9W that runs along the Hudson River opposite of Jones Point, just south of

Bear Mountain. The trailhead is an unpromising break in the weeds just south of the

parking lot but things pick up once your dog negotiates the awkward, rocky

steps in the early stages of the journey.

The hike splits into the Ramapo-Dunderberg Trail (red blazes) and Timp-Torne Trail

(blue blazes). From here, heading up the red trail, you break out to views of the

Hudson River and roll up and down mountains through boulder foundations until

the Timp, a peak overlooking the interior of the Highlands. Climb back down the

Timp and return on the blue trail to complete a rewarding 9-mile loop.

In general, the hiking in the west region of the park is more paw-friendly. Dirt trails

move through forests with little understory and long sightlines. The trails criss-

cross often and there is plenty of up-and-down hiking. It is not unusual to have

tagged four or five small peaks in a two-hour trip. Make sure to find a trail map

before heading out.

Harriman State Park is located at the intersection of the Palisades Parkway and

Route 9W.

Ok, your wedding is over do you know how to preserve all of those special memories you created? Well if not I will give you some tips and advice to preserve every special item you used in your wedding.

Do you want to hand down your wedding dress to your daughter? Do you want to eat a piece of your wedding cake on your first anniversary? Do you want to use your bouquet as a wall decoration? Well do not worry you still can as long as you follow these simple tips.

Your bouquet

To preserve your bouquet you will need to start drying the flowers right away. What you will need to do is hang the bouquet in a dark dry place for at least a week. When you check the bouquet make sure it is nice and dry and free of moisture. If needed dry for a few more days just to make sure. When you are completely sure your bouquet is dried then you can place it a nice curio cabinet or on a wall however you choose.

Your first piece of cake

If you do not have one buy a food sealer, you know one of those neat little small kitchen appliances that sucks all of the air out of the food you are sealing. When you have your food sealer take and suck all of the air out of the plastic bag you are sealing this way when it is air tight it will be good for a long time. This is not it though you want to be safe than sorry. Once you have it sealed you need to take and wrap some aluminum foil and wrap it up then you should be good to go. Just make sure you put your piece of cake in a good working freezer that will keep a constant temperature.

Your wedding dress

When starting the preservation process of the gown time is of the essence. The first thing you need to do is take it to the dry cleaners within a couple of weeks after the wedding. If you wait much longer than this some stains that the dress might have might not be able to be removed.

When taking to the cleaners you will need to make sure that the dress is properly cared for such as in applique, beading or embroidery. Make sure you get a really good idea of how they will be treating your dress. Ask of how many dresses they have cleaned and how long it will take.

The best way is to store your dress with acid free tissue paper and acid free box. When I say acid free I mean everything from the window of the box to the interior if not you will get brown spots on your dress. You will need to remove all the padding of the dress including the shoulder pads and bust. You will need to lay the dress completely flat and do not store nothing else with it.

Do not store your dress know where else but a dry area where the temperature remains constant. Storing in a shed or garage will not be a good idea because the temperature will fluctuate. Also check your dress every six months just to make sure it is still in good condition.

What is it about the BCBGirls Pump collection that makes it so popular with women?  The most obvious answer is the style - these pumps are cut in such a way that they are amazingly flattering to the shape of women's legs.  But there is another reason women love them - their comfort!

Still on the road today and ever changing since 1976 is the Volkswagen Golf GTI. This car was first introduced to the states as the rabbit and the GTI tag later became a trim level available on the VW Golf. Now in its 5th version the VW GTI has come to be known as the original hot hatch. Although today the GTI is less of a spartan and lightweight car to be tossed about and much more of a refined fully loaded vehicle it still has roots deep in the original.

These cars still have a very dedicated following and for good reason, but they are also still plentiful even in older MKII and MKI versions and can easily be had for under $1000 bucks if you know where to look.

For this profile I will be focusing on the older models that can be found for cheap (and in my opinion are the best looking) Which is mainly going to be versions MKI and MKII but who knows? You may come across an MKIII that is in need of some work for cheap.

What makes these cars All-Stars is a fairly simple formula. A small light weight design with a performance minded suspension that is simple but effective. Combine this with a simple but fun and effective 4 cylinder and a front wheel drive layout and you have a car that anybody can push to its limits. Most older GTI's are going to be in 2.0 8v form but the much more desirable versions have 16v engines with a lot more breathing capability. MKIII's had an available VR6 but good luck finding one for under $1000 bucks.

Like most tuner favorites the GTI has a unique ability to take on a large or small amount of mods and still provide lots of fun. If your budget permits a popular swap in the lighter and older models can be to use modern hardware such as 1.8t and VR6 engines.

Check out almost any shape or form of motor sport and your likely to see an old GTI in the pack. From auto-cross to rally racing these cars have an aftermarket that can support just about any type of motorsport your into, and if racing is not your thing the spacious interior, very functional hatch, and great gas mileage make the GTI even an awesome car for the daily commute.

A quick reminder for those in the hunt for an old GTI they come in various levels from bone stock to heavily modified and depending on your purposes and budget this can greatly effect your decision. There are still plenty of cars out there for under $1000 dollars in great running shape, but unfortunately the numbers are becoming smaller by the day so if you want one start looking and don't wait!
